Adult ADHD is one of the most underdiagnosed and undertreated in Dubai healthcare. Many adults present with executive function difficulties, attention problems, emotional regulation issues, and a long history of compensating that has finally hit its limit. Accurate diagnosis enables appropriate treatment—and the difference between life with and without that diagnosis is often substantial.
What the pathway includes
Detailed clinical interview covering developmental history, current symptoms, functional impact, and ruling out other contributors (depression, anxiety, sleep, substance use). Validated rating scales — DIVA-5 or CAADID, ASRS, current and childhood symptom checklists, functional impairment scales. Cognitive testing focused on attention, working memory, processing speed, and executive function. Collateral information from a family member or partner where possible. Comprehensive written report with diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations.
After the assessment
If the assessment confirms ADHD, we discuss the treatment options openly — medication (in coordination with a psychiatrist), psychological strategies, executive function coaching, lifestyle modifications, and accommodations at work or study. If the assessment doesn't confirm ADHD but identifies something else (anxiety, sleep disorder, mood disorder), we refer onward appropriately. Sometimes the most useful outcome is ruling out ADHD as the explanation.
Outcome measures we use
- DIVA-5 / CAADID structured diagnostic interview
- Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS)
- Conners Adult ADHD Rating Scales (CAARS)
- Cognitive Battery: Attention, Working Memory, Processing Speed, Executive Function
- Weiss Functional Impairment Rating Scale

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to be assessed?
No. You can self-refer for an adult ADHD assessment. Many people come to us after years of suspecting ADHD without ever being formally assessed.
How long does the assessment take?
Typically 3–5 hours of testing across one or two sessions, plus the time we spend reviewing your developmental history and current functioning. You receive a written report within two weeks of the final session.
Will I be diagnosed with ADHD?
Maybe—and maybe not. The assessment establishes whether you meet diagnostic criteria. Many people who think they have ADHD do; many don't, and what they have is something else (anxiety, sleep disturbance, mood disorder, executive function difficulties from another cause). The assessment gives you a clear answer either way.
What happens if I'm diagnosed?
We discuss treatment options openly. Medication is one option; many people benefit from psychological strategies, coaching, and lifestyle adjustments alongside or instead of medication. For medication, we coordinate with a psychiatrist for prescribing and ongoing monitoring.
Is the assessment covered by insurance?
Some UAE insurers cover neuropsychological assessment under cognitive assessment or psychological testing codes. Coverage varies. Contact us with your insurance details and we will verify.
Can I be assessed if I'm already taking ADHD medication?
Yes. We can do a comprehensive assessment for people already on medication—typically to confirm or clarify the diagnosis, or to inform decisions about treatment changes. Where possible we ask about medication status to interpret results correctly.
